High quality screencaptures from Kits role in Brimstone have been added to the gallery. As always, this is your spoiler warning so if you have not yet seen the film I’d advise not to view them for now. For all it was only a short role I think Kit did an amazing job and especially loved his scenes with Emilia Jones. It really is a wonderful film

Kit Harington says not knowing how ‘Game of Thrones’ will end is amazing

Ready to see Kit Harington play a different kind of unlikely hero? Only this time, there are no dragons, dire wolves, or White Walkers in sight.

The “Game of Thrones” star has a key role in “Brimstone,” the bleak, violent and uncompromising Western from Dutch filmmaker Martin Koolhoven. The film slowly, over the course of four in-film “chapters,” unveils the grim circumstances in which a young, mute frontier midwife and mother (Dakota Fanning) finds herself the target of an obsessed and unrelenting fire-and-brimstone preacher (Guy Pearce). Harington plays Samuel, a wounded cowboy running from trouble, who receives shelter from the 14-year-old Liz (Emilia Jones) and leaves a lasting mark on the girl as her life descends into horror.

Once again, Harington treads into territory that unflinchingly explores violence, brutality, and their aftereffects, much like the HBO fantasy series he’s best known for. After wrapping filming on the upcoming seventh season, he admits that he’s still marveling on how the show has moved forward so strongly, without a new volume in the epic A Song of Ice and Fire” series to shape it.

Moviefone: “Brimstone” is quite an amazing piece of filmmaking, and I imagine it was a very easy “yes” for you to get involved. But what were the specific motivators for you? What were the things you saw in the character and in the story that really got you excited creatively?
Kit Harington: I’ll be honest: I read the script a while before I joined it. Then, as sometimes happens, the role went to someone else. It went to Robert Pattinson. I kind of put it to bed in my head. Then whatever happened happened, and I came aboard very late.
I think first and foremost, I really wanted this role from the get-go because the script was so strong. It was so interesting. It was so surreal. It wasn’t really specific to any kind of genre.

Gunpowder Cast Additions

The BBC has found its Guy Fawkes. RadioTimes.com can reveal that actor Tom Cullen – known to Downton Abbey fans as Lady Mary’s unsuccessful suitor Viscount Gillingham – has been cast as the 17th century conspirator in BBC1’s new drama series Gunpowder. He will star alongside Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, who has already been confirmed in the role of Robert Catesby, the mastermind of the plot to blow up Parliament.

However we can also reveal other new castings. Broadchurch star Shaun Dooley plays Sir William Wade, Lieutenant of The Tower and Cecil’s right hand man, with some light relief possibly coming from comic actors David Bamber as the Earl of Northumberland and Kevin Eldon as Sir Joseph Hawksworth.
Also cast is Wolf Hall actor Edward Holcroft as Catesby’s friend and co-plotter Thomas Wintour, and Robert Emms as Father Gerard, a firebrand young priest. Derek Riddell has been cast as King James I of England, with EastEnders actress Sian Webber playing Catholic sympathiser Lady Dorothy Dibdale. Spanish actor Pedro Casablanc plays the Constable of Castille, who was involved in the conspiracy.

The three-part drama will focus on Catesby, the 30-year-old Warwickshire gentleman who masterminded the failed assassination attempt on King James.  A committed Catholic in Protestant England, the drama will portray his struggles to bring up his young son in an increasingly intolerant society, having recently lost both his wife and father. He is angered by the suffering of his fellow Catholics, despite the pleas of Jesuit Father Garnet (played by Top of the Lake actor Peter Mullan) for peaceful protest.

New Project: Gunpowder + Filming News

After reading several rumours surrounding Gunpowder it has been confirmed it will begin filming in Hull on Monday. It will be produced by Kudos Films and Television along with Kit and Dans company Thriker Films with the BBC acquiring the distributing rights. According to IMDb Kit will also be an executive producer on the project. No other details regarding filming locations or casting have been released.
Edit; Digital Spy and Radio Times are reporting that Mark Gatiss (Chief Robert Cecil), Liv Tyler (Anne Vaux) and Peter Mullan (Father Garnet) have signed on to the three-part series and they have also mentioned that Kit will be playing his ancestor Robert Catesby.

A BBC drama starring Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington will begin filming in Beverley on Monday. Gunpowder, a one-off film about Guy Fawkes and his infamous plot to blow up Parliament in 1605, will shoot scenes at the town’s Minster next week

Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington has been confirmed to star in a new drama series about the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605, telling the little-known story of the real brains behind the operation: Robert Catesby.
Harington had been rumoured to be working on an adaptation of the story a few months ago, with the actor having previously revealed that he was descended from Catesby and that he had an interest in bringing his ancestor’s story to the screen. While the 5th of November has long been known as Guy Fawkes Day and celebrated with bonfires, fireworks and effigies, the three-part drama will reveal how it wasn’t all about Guy Fawkes and his tunnels under Parliament. Instead, we meet Catesby, the 30-year-old Warwickshire gentleman who masterminded the failed assassination attempt on King James.
